Sports Desk : Portugal advanced to the round of 16 on Wednesday June 23, after Cristiano Ronaldo scored two penalties drawing the match with France at 2-2.
As Ronaldo scored his tournament leading fourth and fifth goals, it led him to the same league as that of former Iran striker Ali Daei, at 109.
This has simultaneously extended his overall tournament record to 14.
While Ronaldo scored the game-opening goal in the 31st minute, France’s Karim Benzema scored both the goals for his team, finally, after failing to meet his target at Euro 2008 and 2012. This was later equalized by Ronaldo, who tied the match at 2-2 in the 60th minute.
Portugal is currently finished at the third place, behind Germany, who is in the second, with already qualified France in the first.
France is to face Switzerland in the next round, while Portugal is to face Belgium.
