International Desk: The Muslim holy month of Ramadan could be a 'good opportunity' for a ceasefire in Gaza, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said.

He made such comments in an interview given to the Italian media Nov on Sunday (March 10). News from Yeni Safak and Anadolu Agency.
"Palestinian civilians are paying the ultimate price in the war in Gaza," Guterres said. Israel says it was a war against Hamas, not against the Palestinians. But the reality is, it has become a collective punishment for the Palestinians.'

Antonio Guterres reiterated the need for a ceasefire in Gaza, saying 'Ramadan could be a good opportunity for it.'
Guterres also commented on the cease-fire in Gaza the day after the interview with Nov. At a press encounter on Monday, he called for action to avoid more 'preventable' deaths in the region. The UN Secretary General said, 'Even though Ramadan has started - killing, bombing and bloodshed continue in Gaza.'

He called on the world to respect the spirit of Ramadan and remove all obstacles to ensure the delivery of necessary and massive life-saving aid to Gaza.
Meanwhile, Guterres also commented on the war in Ukraine. Emphasizing the importance of respecting Ukraine's territorial integrity, he said, "I don't think there is any desire to start negotiations between Russia and Ukraine."
