Khaleda’s release term to be extended

Sun News Desk: Law Minister Anisul Haque said that the release term of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia will be extended again if her family members submit an application. We are waiting to receive an application.

The Law Minister said in response to a question from journalists at the Judicial Administration Training Institute in the capital on Saturday.

The law minister said we are waiting for their application. If they apply, the release period will definitely increase.

Khaleda Zia was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on February 8, 2018 by Dhaka's Special Court, established at Bakshibazar Alia Madrasa Ground.

After the verdict, Khaleda Zia was detained in the old central jail on Nazimuddin Road in Old Dhaka. Later on October 30 of that year, the High Court increased his sentence by five years to 10 years on appeal in the same case.

After the start of the corona epidemic in the country, the government temporarily released her in an executive order on March 25, 2020, in view of her family's request. Since then her release period has been extended five times.

According to the terms of the extended period, during this period Khaleda Zia will receive treatment from her residence in Dhaka and will not be able to go outside from the country.
