Journalist Rozina's bail hearing today

Staff Reporter: Prothom Alo senior reporter Rozina Islam's bail will be heard today (Thursday) virtually at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch (DB) on Wednesday was tasked to investigate the case against journalist Rozina Islam under the Official Secrets Act and the Penal Code. Azimul Haque, deputy commissioner of DB's Ramna division, said they had been given the task of investigation. Now they will get the documents from Shahbagh police station.

Earlier, police produced Rozina Islam in court on Tuesday after showing her arrest in the case. At the same time, the police applied for remand for questioning Rozina. On the other hand, Rozina Islam's lawyers applied for bail. At the hearing Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim rejected the remand application and fixed May 20 for hearing on bail application and Rozina was sent to jail.

Rozina Islam's lawyer Ehsanul Haque Samaji said on Wednesday that the law minister had already assured that Rozina Islam would get justice. A virtual hearing is set for Thursday on his bail application.

Last Monday afternoon, Rozina Islam went to the Ministry of Health in the Secretariat to perform her professional duties. Ministry officials locked her in a room about 5 hours and handed over to Shahbagh Police Station at around 8.30 pm.

Later, Shibbir Ahmed Osmani, deputy secretary of the Health Ministry filed a case against her at the Shahbagh police station.
