Sun News Desk: The High Court has summoned all the documents signed by the Deputy Director of Bangladesh Bank Arefin Ahsan Mia regarding the money laundering of the wife and daughter of Laxmipur-2 MP Kazi Shahid Islam Papul who was arrested in Kuwait.
The court has fixed January 24 for the next hearing and order in this regard.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim passed the order on Tuesday. Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for the ACC in the court. Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.
Amin Uddin Manik said that during the hearing of the case, the court questioned the fact that the document acquitting Papul's wife and daughter did not have the signature of Assistant Director Mashiur Rahman, another investigating officer of Bangladesh Bank. Later, the court ordered to summon all the relevant documents.
Selina Islam MP, wife of Kazi Shahid Islam Papul, an MP arrested in Kuwait on November 28 in a case of illegal acquisition of wealth and money laundering, and her daughter Wafa Islam applied for anticipatory bail in the High Court. The High Court did not grant them bail on December 10. On the contrary, the court ordered him to surrender within 10 days. At the same time, Deputy Director of Bangladesh Bank Ariful Islam Mia was summoned in the case. Later on December 26, they surrendered before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge KM Imrul Kayesh and were granted bail.
Deputy Attorney General Amin Uddin Manik said, on December 10, the Deputy Director of Bangladesh Bank. A letter signed by Arefin Ahsan Mian was brought to the notice of the court on the same day. He also said that in the case of FDR and loan money of the accused, 'money laundering did not appear'. For this reason, the court has asked him (Arefin Ahsan Miah) to appear on January 4 and explain the matter. The deputy director was instructed to explain under what authority he had given the letter. He later submitted an explanation.
