Instructions to Act on GI Products

Own Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the concerned parties to take action on GI or Geographical Indication products.

She gave this instruction at the Cabinet meeting at the Prime Minister's office on Sunday (February 11). The Prime Minister presided over the meeting. At the end of the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary briefed the journalists on this matter. Mahbub Hossain.

When asked if the Prime Minister gave any instructions outside the agenda, the secretary said, she gave an instruction. GI products are discussed. There he asked the concerned to take action.

The Prime Minister said, everyone should be active and take initiative to dispose of the products that we have.

Earlier in the morning, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun handed over the patents of the Ministry of Industries, Directorate of Industrial Designs and Trademarks Tangail Sarees, Amrit Sagar Banana of Narsingdi, GI Certificate of Rasgolla of Gopalganj and Sarees of Tangail to the Prime Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.

The cabinet secretary said that the journals of 3 products have been published, copies of which have been given to the Prime Minister. Certificates of recognition of Saree of Tangail, Rasgolla of Gopalganj and Amrit Sagar of Narsingdi as GI products have been handed over to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He said that there has been a discussion about giving the Tangail saree certificate as a GI product by the Government of India.

Mahbub Hossain said, if there is such a conflict, there is an international organization for that. If there are any such, we are instructed to present them there.
