Sun International Desk:
The Muslim world has been a storm of protest against the anti-Muslim cartoon show of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him.). and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for a boycott of French products.
The Turkish president made the call on Monday amid Turkey's deteriorating relations with the NATO ally due to Paris' controversial stance against Islam. He said France had been told not to buy Turkish-labeled products. I am making a similar call to the citizens of Turkey. In a televised speech in Ankara, Erdogan said he would never buy any French-labeled product.
Erdogan also criticized French President Emmanuel Macron's stance against Muslims. Earlier on Saturday, the Turkish president said Emanuel Macron had problems with Muslims. For this he needs a mental health test. France has withdrawn its ambassador from Ankara following remarks by the Turkish president.
A 16-year-old boy beheaded a schoolteacher on the outskirts of Paris on October 18. The teenager killed the school teacher out of anger over the display of controversial cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to students. The French government later awarded the schoolteacher the country's highest posthumous award and began displaying the controversial cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) on various buildings.
French President Emmanuel Macron ordered state-sponsored cartoons. "We will never bow to Islamic fundamentalists," Macron said in a tweet yesterday. "We do not resist hate speech and rational opinion," he said, provoking anti-Islamic satirical cartoons and statements in the name of supporting freedom of expression. The French president's stance has led to a boycott of French goods in various parts of the Muslim world, including the Arabian Gulf. Businesses, including many well-known chain shops, have stopped selling French products. France has called on Arab countries to end their boycott, citing the far-reaching effects of the coronation.
The French Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday (October 25th) that a number of Middle Eastern countries had recently called for a boycott of French goods, especially food, following the publication of satirical cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. Protests against France have also been called for in several Muslim countries. The boycott calls are baseless and should be stopped immediately. At the same time, all kinds of aggressive attitudes that are inciting an extremist minority community must be stopped. Source: Reuters, AFP.
