District Correspondent: Seven villages of Ghumdhum Union on the border of Naikshyongchari in Bandarban have been depopulated due to the fear of insurgents fighting with the government forces inside Myanmar.

Anwar Hossain, Ward No. 5 member of Ghumdhum Union, confirmed the matter to the media on Tuesday (February 6) evening.

He said that a shelter has been opened at North Ghumdhum Government Primary School. More than 100 people from 40 families in seven neighborhoods have taken shelter since Monday.

Meanwhile, in the existing situation, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) has ordered to take back 240 families of Naikshyongchari border of Bandarban to safe shelter.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shah Mujahid Uddin said that due to the ongoing situation inside Myanmar on the Bandarban-Myanmar border, instructions have been given to take the students and 240 families living in high-risk areas on the border to safe shelter. At the same time, schools along the border have been closed until the situation normalizes and everyone has been advised to be alert and not panic.

Incidentally, in the ongoing conflict in Myanmar, the entire border area is shaking with the sound of bullets, mortar shells and bomb blasts. Panic is spreading in the border areas from Ghoomdhum Union of Naikshyongchari in Bandarban, Palangkhali Union in Ukhia of Cox's Bazar to Hoikang and Hnila Union in Teknaf due to the sound of gunfire and mortar shells. Especially the death of two people at the Tumbru border has increased the panic.

Facing intense pressure from insurgents within Myanmar, numerous members of the Border Guard Force (BGP) are seeking refuge in Bangladesh's Rakhine State. On Tuesday, February 6, a total of 149 BGP members, along with other forces, crossed into Bangladesh through various borders including Ukhia, Teknaf, and Tumbru. Over the course of three days, a total of 264 BGP members have sought refuge in Bangladesh, highlighting the escalating crisis in the region.
