Philippines Gold Mine Collapse, 54 Dead

International Desk: 54 bodies have been recovered after a gold mine collapse in the city of Mako in the southern province of Davao de Oro in the Philippines. At least 63 people are still missing in this incident.

Davao de Oro province administration official Edward Macapilli said that the gold mine collapsed on Tuesday, February 6. After some time, the disaster management department started the rescue operation. Reuters news.

Edward Macapili said, "More than 300 workers of the disaster management department are conducting rescue operations in that mine." In the last 5 days, 54 bodies have been recovered and it is believed that at least 63 people are still trapped under the piles of mud and debris.

'Heavy rain is coming from that area. Mud has covered the entire mine area and there is danger of further landslides. Because of this, the desired speed cannot be brought in the rescue operation.'

Macappilli said of the chances of survival of those buried under the mud, "the chances are very low." But our rescue workers are doing their best.'
