3 killed in Mocha rampage

Sun News Desk : Three persons were killed in the attack of Cyclone Mocha at Maheshkhali upazila in Cox's Bazar on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Ridwan, 35, a resident of Kalagazi Para village, Muhammad Nesar, 32, of Panirchhara village, and Mohammad Ansar, of Baroghar Para village under Hoanak union of the upazila.

Maheshkhali Police Station officer-in-charge Pranab Chowdhury confirmed the matter today.

Mir Kashem Chowdhury, Hoanak UP chairman, said around 11 am on Sunday, 40-50 workers went to field to save polythene and salt when Mocha's rapidity increased. When 6-7 people fell ill due to rain and strong wind, their relatives rescued them and took to Maheshkhali Upazila Health Complex. Ridwan was declared dead there by the on-duty doctor around 4:30 pm.

On the other hand, Muhammad Nesar died while lifting polythene from the salt field. His body was found floating on the water around 10:30 pm.

Later, local people recovered Ansar's body from the salt field at around 11:30 pm.

Locals said another 10-15 salt farmers from different villages of the union were not returned home yet after the incident.
