15 killed in Gulistan explosion

Sun News Desk: At least 15 people have been killed and more than 60 others injured in an explosion in capital Dhaka's Gulistan area on Tuesday.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

It is primarily being assumed that explosion might have happened from an explosion in an air-conditioner.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Outpost in-charge inspector Bachchu Mia confirmed the matter.

However, Fire Service and Civil Defence officer in-charge (media cell) Md Shahjahan Shikder said seven firefighting units, being informed, went to the spot and were trying to douse the blaze.

Officials of the Fire Service and Civil Defence said there is a sanitary shop on the ground floor of the seven-storyed building. There is an office of Brac Bank Limited. Several floors of the building have been badly damaged in the explosion.

Earlier at about 4:50 pm, the explosion occurred on the ground floor of a seven-storey building at Siddique Bazar.
