International Desk: Donald Trump is the only US president to face impeachment twice. But the 45th president of the United States was released from the impeachment hearing on Saturday (February 13th). He was accused of inciting capital riots.
During the five-day hearing, Trump's opposition Democrats alleged that Trump had incited supporters to attack the US Congress in order to cancel the results of the November presidential election. Through this, he has broken his oath as president. However, the hearing ended with 56-43 votes. At least six votes were needed against Trump to convict him.
Six Republicans who attended the impeachment hearing voted against Trump. Yet Trump survived by failing to get the required one-third of the votes needed to convict him.
Donald Trump supporters attacked the Capitol building on January 6. Five people, including a police officer, were killed in the riot. The people working in the office were hiding in fear of the attackers.
He had to face impeachment for inciting the attack. However, Trump has denied the allegations from the beginning. Trump's lawyers also called the process a "political drama" by the ruling Democrats.
Earlier, in 2019, Trump faced impeachment in the House of Representatives. He was also saved in the vote. He was then charged with abuse of power as president and obstruction of Congress.
