International Desk: A Strong earthquake rattled parts of the southern parts of the Philippines on Thursday. Its magnitude on the Richter scale was 7.1.
The country's Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Fivlox) reported.
The epicenter was reported below the Pacific Ocean floor, however; no tsunami alert was issued. . Its epicenter was 231 kilometers from Davao Occidental.
Davo is president President Rodrigo Duterte’s hometown,has been battered by powerful earthquakes set off by local fault lines in recent years.
The earthquake was felt in nearby cities and provinces. Some residents ran out of their houses as the ground shook and power cables and business signs swayed.However, no major damage or casualties were reported in the quake.
Earlier, on December 25, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake shook the country's capital Manila on Christmas Eve. And a quake of 7.7 magnitude killed nearly 2,000 people in the northern Philippines in 1990.
