Four die as road crash sparks fire

Staff reporter : Four people have been killed and seven others injured as an ambulance caught fire following a gas cylinder blast after being hit by two buses at Savar on Thursday.

However, the identities of the dead could not be known yet.

Fire Service said that a Dhaka-bound ambulance was hit by two buses from behind. The ambulance's gas cylinder exploded and caught fire. Later, the fire spread to the ambulance and two passenger buses.

Four people who were in the ambulance were burnt to death after the blast, said Savar Fire Service In-charge Meherul Islam. Two busses also caught fire after collision with the ambulance, leaving seven people injured, he added.

On information, two units of Savar Fire Service reached the spot and brought the fire under control after about an hour of effort.

Saugatul Alam, Savar Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC), said the fire service recovered the bodies of four people from the scene in burnt condition. However, their identities have not been confirmed yet.

The bodies were sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital for identification and autopsy.
