National Citizen Party (NCP) member-secretary Akhtar Hossain has been acquitted in two separate cases filed with Shahbagh Police Station on charges of attempted murder, rioting and obstructing government duties.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Mohammad Junayed and Magistrate Joshita Islam passed the discharge orders on Tuesday following a petition submitted by his lawyer Md Mujahidul Islam.
The counsel said the cases were withdrawn after a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Earlier, Akhtar Hossain had obtained bail on December 28 after surrendering before the court. The cases were filed in 2021 in connection with protests against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh.
