Sajeke Fire, Resort-Shop Burned to Ashes

District Representative: A fire occurred on Kanglak Hill in the Sajek Valley, located within Baghaichhari Upazila of the Rangamati district.

The first fire broke out at Sajek's Meghchoya resort in the middle of the night on Thursday (February 1). It soon spread to nearby resorts, shops and residences.

Eyewitnesses said that the fire is believed to have started when locals were burning wood near the Meghchoya resort.

The fire was brought under control after two hours of efforts with the help of army and local people. Two resorts, a house and a shop were completely gutted in the fire.

Chaithuang Aung Chowdhury Joy, vice president of Sajek Cottage Owners Association, said that the fire from Meghchhoya Resort burnt down the nearby Faringi Resort, local Bhuban Tripura's house and a shop. However, the tourists staying at the resort have been evacuated safely. The extent of the fire damage is not yet known.
