International Desk: The Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to a human rights activist and two human rights organizations for their significant contribution to peace. The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced the names of the winners on Friday.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee said it has been decided to award this year's Nobel Peace Prize to human rights advocate Ales Bialiatski from Belarus, Russian human rights organization Memorial and Ukrainian human rights organization Center for Civil Liberties.
The committee said on laureates that Nobel Peace Prize laureates represent civil society in their respective countries. They have been criticizing the rulers and campaigning for the protection of the fundamental rights of the citizens for many years. The Nobel Peace Prize laureates are also lauded for their efforts to document issues such as war crimes, human rights abuses and abuse of power.
