International Desk: Afghanistan's deadliest bombing in Kabul killed a district police chief and his bodyguards. Three others were injured. However, the police could not immediately arrest or identify anyone in the incident or no one immediately claimed responsibility.
According to a report by ACB News, the area known as District Five is the main hub for travelling from Kabul to the southern provinces of Afghanistan. One of the attacks struck a police car in a western Kabul neighborhood, killing the city's Police District 5 chief MohammadJadi Kochi and his three bodyguards on Wednesday February 10th.
The report quoted the Afghan Interior Ministry as saying that another car bomb had exploded near the International Serena Hotel in an elite area shortly after the attack. However, no casualties were reported. A total of four bombs exploded in the city that day. A total of three others were injured.
Talks are under way between the Afghan government and the Taliban insurgency to find a way to end the two-decade-long war. But despite peace talks, there has been an increase in violence in Afghanistan in recent weeks, particularly bombings.
