The court has ordered the confiscation of the declared assets of the ACC in the case of illegal acquisition of assets filed by retired Teknaf Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradeep Kumar Das and his wife Chumki Karan, accused in the murder case of retired Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan. Pradeep's bail application was also denied.
Chittagong Senior Special and Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman passed the order on Sunday (September 20th).
The accused in the case, Pradeep Kumar Das's wife Chumki, is absconding.
ACC lawyer Kazi Sanwar Ahmed Lavlu told the media, "The accused had applied for bail the day before. After hearing the application, the court rejected it. We have applied for the seizure of the declared property of the accused, the court has granted it, the process has been completed. Now there is no obstacle to confiscate that property. '
According to the case statement, Pradeep Kumar Das had built a six-storey building in Patharghata area of Kotwali police station in Chittagong with the money earned through bribery and corruption. It is said that he built the building in the name of his father-in-law to hide it. The building was later donated to Pradeep's wife by his father-in-law. It is mentioned in the statement of case that the building was acquired by Pradeep Das and his wife Chumki even though it was a deed of donation.
In the income tax return, the accused Chumki's commission business and the income of fish business in five ponds leased for 10 years in Boalkhali upazila have also been shown as fake business for the purpose of transferring, converting and transferring the criminal money of husband Pradeep Das.
Though the bail application was heard in the court on Sunday, accused Pradeep Kumar Das was not brought to the court. He is in Cox's Bazar jail, the ACC lawyer said.
