Staff Reporter: The Appellate Division has asked the Attorney General to talk to the IG Prison about preventing the execution before a full verdict is obtained. The Virtual Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain said this on Sunday (November 7).
Following the verdict of the Appellate Division in one case, the process of execution of one accused has started, but the full verdict of the Appellate Division has not been published. The matter was brought to the notice of the Appellate Division by the lawyer of the convicted person. The court later said that.
On August 18, the Appellate Division upheld the death sentence of a man accused of raping and killing a girl named Sabina (13) in Lalnagar, Kushtia's Daulatpur Upazila in 2004.
Shukur Ali's lawyer, who was sentenced to death, told the court that he was taking the accused to be hanged. He is being hanged because of advance order. However, the full verdict of the Appellate Division was not published. A review will be requested until he is hanged. I am seeking the intervention of the court.
Then the court said, have you applied? In response, the lawyer said, he did not get the power of attorney. It now takes 10 days to get a power of attorney through DC. Defendant's begging application for an advance order has been rejected. The verdict has not been signed yet.
The court said advance orders have been issued for those who have been sentenced to life imprisonment to be sent to normal cells.
At one point, the court said to Attorney General AM Amin Uddin, "You will tell the IG Prison before the full verdict is given so that the sentence is not enforced."
