NCP urged EC to consider Khaleda Zia'a illness for election schedule

Staff Reporter

Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) urged the Election Commission to consider the illness of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia before announcing the schedule for the upcoming 13th national election, scheduled for next February.

Speaking at a policy discussion organized by NCP at a Dhaka hotel, Nahid said, “The Election Commission (EC) will decide on the schedule. One of the key political leaders’ health is also a consideration. We hope the election schedule will be announced once all parties are politically ready.” He added that EC should ensure all parties are united as the election process begins, emphasizing that the process should not be stalled for any particular party.

“We sympathize with the leader of BNP due to her illness. We have urged the EC to take this into account. But the election should take place on time,” he said.

Nahid also clarified that NCP has not made any formal or informal agreements with other parties regarding the upcoming polls.

“There have been attempts to spread misinformation about us. We will announce our candidate list very soon. Discussions are ongoing regarding a third alliance. Traditional parties with credibility issues have lost public trust, which is why we aim to promote a new wave of politics,” he added.
