Staff Repoter

A low-pressure system is likely to form over the central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, bringing rain and thunderstorms to different parts of Bangladesh over the next five days, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said on Wednesday.

The forecast covers 120 hours from 9:00am on Wednesday.

The BMD said the monsoon was less active over the southern and eastern parts of the country and remained weak over the north Bay.

The southwest monsoon has already withdrawn from western Bangladesh and may withdraw from the rest of the country within the next 24 hours, according to the department.

On Wednesday, parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, as well as one or two places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions, may experience light to moderate rain or thunderstorms accompanied by temporary gusty winds.

Daytime temperatures may remain nearly unchanged across the country, while night temperatures may fall slightly.

On Thursday, many places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka and Khulna divisions and some places in Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions may experience light to moderate rain or thunderstorms with temporary gusty winds. Moderate to heavy rain may occur at some places.

Daytime temperatures may fall slightly, while night temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged.

Similar conditions are expected on Friday, with many places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka and Khulna divisions and some places in Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions likely to receive light to moderate rain or thunderstorms accompanied by temporary gusty winds.
