Srilanka tour postponed, focus on domestic league

Dipika Arefin,Special Correspondent

Bangladesh Cricket Board(BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon said that the Tigers will not be touring the island nation as BCB could not agree with the quarantine protocols of Srilanka for the three test tour.Papon confirmed it on Monday(28th September)and he also said that it might be rescheduled later when the situation improves and there wouldn’t be any such conditions.

BCB was keen to send the team to Srilanka as it would have marked Tigers first international cricket in seven months; since the series is now indefinitely postponed, focus will now be shifted to getting cricket back on the fields at home.

BCB,CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said that the decision to defer the tour became necessary as the current Covid 19 health guidelines for visitors in Srilanka would not have allowed the Tigers to adequately prepare for a Test series. BCB is going to emphasize to start the domestic leagues soon. Papon also added, “if we are able to have the domestic leagues done successfully while observing the global situation,we can think of hosting international teams with an improved circumstance but not at this point.”
