Ishihidi Soga has been elected as the new Prime Minister of Japan. The 81-year-old former cabinet secretary won an easy victory as prime minister on Wednesday (September 18th).

Lower House Speaker Tadamori Oshima said: "Our House of Representatives has elected Ishihidi Soga as Prime Minister. He received 314 of the 472 votes legally read by members of parliament.

Yusuhidi, known as a close ally of the outgoing Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, will run the country according to the principles of Suga Abe. Shinzo Abe announced his resignation last month for health reasons.

Earlier on Monday (September 14th), he won a landslide victory as head of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

His predecessor Shinzo Abe resigned as prime minister due to a physical illness. However, at the time of announcing the candidature, he announced that he would continue the various programs started by Prime Minister Abe. Abenomics is one of them.

After being elected party leader two days ago, Suga said, ‘I was born as the eldest son of a farmer named Akita. I had no knowledge of politics. Nor does it have anything to do with my blood. So I started from zero. And now I am the leader of LDP. '
