Sun News Desk : A court in Satkhira sentenced four people and 44 others to seven years in jail in two cases filed over an attack on the motorcade of the then Leader of the Opposition and incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Satkhira.

Judge Bishwanath Mondol of Satkhira Special Tribunal-3 passed the order on Tuesday. Advocate Abdul Latif, Public Prosecutor of Satkhira Judges Court, confirmed the matter.
The convicts who got life imprisonment are Habibul Islam Habib, former MP of Satkhira-1 constituency, BNP leader Ripon, Juba Dal leaders Abdul Kader Bachchu and Arifur Rahman Ranju.

On August 30, 2002, Sheikh Hasina’s motorcade was attacked in front of the Kalaroa Upazila BNP office in Satkhira, when the BNP-led four-party alliance government was in power.
Awami League president Sheikh Hasina was on her way to Dhaka after attending several programmes in Satkhira and its adjoining areas.

But when her motorcade reached the Kalaroa Upazila BNP office area, a group of terrorists attacked with machetes, bombs, and firearms.
Several people, including former MP Mujibur Rahman, were injured when the terrorists fired on the convoy and detonated bombs.
