Sun News Desk : At lest 17 people including 10 firefighters fell sick due to huge black smoke while trying to douse the New Market fire.

All of them are giving treatment at emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Of the injured, one is volunteer, one is shop owner and five are employees.

Brig Gen Md Main Uddin, Fire Service and Civil Defence's director general, said they managed to take the blaze under their control but it would take some more time to douse fully.

Traders said there are about 1,250 shops at the market, which is very close to the New Market.
