BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has warned that an “evil force” is working behind the scenes to influence the upcoming 13th national election, weaving a “web of conspiracies” to derail the people’s mandate.
Speaking virtually at a discussion marking BNP’s 47th founding anniversary, Tarique stressed the importance of strengthening party’s ties with people and urged leaders and activists to remain vigilant.
He said the national election is the foremost tool for establishing people’s rights in the country.
“Almost a year ago, I warned that evil forces were at play regarding the election. Now people are beginning to notice. The evil attempts to rob the people of their right to choose through elections are gradually becoming visible,” he remarked.
Tarique cautioned that conspirators might exploit the weaknesses of the interim government. “The longer this government remains in office, the more its weaknesses will be exposed. This provides opportunities for anti-July forces to create confusion over August 5 and push the country toward instability,” he said. Describing public power as the only way out of this crisis, the BNP leader asserted, “As the election approaches, various conspiracies are being hatched. But if we stand firmly with the people, no conspiracy can block BNP’s progress.”
In a clear message to political rivals, he added, “Instead of engaging in destructive politics to prevent BNP’s victory—like the fugitive autocrats of the past—let us build a government accountable to the people through elections.”
Urging party members to stay connected with the masses, Tarique said, “We must walk the path of election-centered democracy by ensuring people’s voting rights. Close ties with the people are our greatest strength.”
