notice to Sazzad Hossain Hridoy, organising secretary of its Chittagong University unit, after posting on Facebook protesting the recent hike in fuel prices.

The notice was issued today through a letter signed by Md Jahangir Alam, office secretary of the organisation.

Following news of the fuel price hike yesterday, Hridoy wrote on Facebook, “Since the beginning of my involvement in student politics, most of the BNP programmes I took part in were against hikes in the prices of fuel, gas and electricity. Today, fuel prices have been increased. I registered my protest.”

The show-cause notice said Hridoy, as a responsible office-bearer of the Chhatra Dal’s CU unit, had been asked to explain why permanent organisational disciplinary action should not be taken against him for allegedly violating organisational discipline.

It asked him to appear at the organisation’s central office within 48 hours and submit a written explanation in the presence of Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir.

The notice said it was issued on the instructions of the organisation’s president and general secretary.

Speaking about the notice, Hridoy said, “I am loyal to the organisation. Since I have been served a show-cause notice, I will give my explanation within the stipulated time.”

He added that in the comments section of his Facebook post, he had also mentioned that the price of oil had doubled in the international market due to the war in the Middle East, resulting in a loss of Tk 22,000 crore in the country.
