Explosions in Pakistan: 26 Killed in Two Places

International Desk: Just before Pakistan's general election, at least 26 people were killed in two consecutive bomb blasts in the country's Balochistan province. In addition, 30 others were injured.

Reuters reported this information in a report on Wednesday (February 7).

Reuters says the first attack took place near the office of an independent candidate in Balochistan's Pishin district. The second blast occurred near an office of the provincial political party Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI) in Qilla Saifullah town on the border with Afghanistan.

Pishin District Deputy Commissioner Jumma Dad Khan said that 14 people were killed and around 30 injured in the first attack. On the other hand, 12 people were killed in the explosion of Killa Saifullah, said Yasir Bazari, the deputy commissioner of the city.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned the Balochistan Chief Secretary and Inspector General of Police (IGP) for a detailed report on the incident.

The ECP spokesperson said that action has been taken against those involved in the incident.

It is to be noted that the voting for the 16th general election will begin across Pakistan from Thursday (February 8) morning.
