Sun News Desk : Coal extraction has been halted from Barapukuria mine in Dinajpur's Parvatipur upazila due to the depletion of an underground face (coal emission face).

The coal mining remain halted since 6:00 pm, Tuesday.
The plant chief engineer Abu Bakar Siddique said As a result, the production of electricity has been reduced at Barapukuria 525-megawatt Thermal Power Plant keeping only a unit in operation.

The mine sources said the coal reserves of face no 1113 was exhausted after pulling out 3,75,000 metric tons of coal from it. From now, they will extract coal from another new face which has 2,16,000 metric tons of coal in reserves. The process of installing production tools at face no 1412 is ongoing, removing them from face no 1113.
Barapukuria Coal Mining Company managing director engineer Saiful Islam said it will take nearly two months to go into production.
