Staff Correspondent: Due to delay in the transfer process of Old Dhaka, many Chemical Industries are still operating illegaly said the Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation, Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas.
Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor was speaking to reporters on Wednesday (November 10th) after inspecting the Mohammadbagh underground drainage in Ward No. 59 of Taposh Nagar.
Mayor Barrister Sheikh Taposh said, "City Corporation has taken appropriate steps to remove chemical factories and warehouses from Old Dhaka. We have not issued any trade licenses since 2017. But even then, it seems that due to delays in the transfer process, there are still illegal (in Old Dhaka) chemical factories and warehouses that are open.”
Referring to the recent fire incidents in Old Dhaka, Dhadsik Mayor Barrister Sheikh Tapas said, "Such incidents are highly undesirable. I am bringing the matter to the notice of other authorities. so the arrangement of transferring happens soon. "
Sheikh Tapas said, "We are being deprived of revenue but nothing is being done. Every year there are deaths, accidents. So we request them to take immediate action."
The traders are also giving various excuses for relocation, said the mayor. Where are we going to relocate, the relocation process is not completed, our place is not arranged - there are various excuses. But we are strict. So we will ask the other authorities to inspect them on the spot and stop the illegal activities as soon as possible. "
The mayor said that the place where we have come today - this part of the Shampur canal is still occupied. We will release it. The bridge here was built by LGID 40 years ago. Here we will build a new bridge so that the flow of water is ensured and the canal is widened. We will also undertake activities so that boats can navigate under this bridge.
Earlier, the Mayor inaugurated the Interim Waste Transfer (STS) Center in Ward No. 42 of the city.
Among others, Farid Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation, Air Commodore Sitwat Naeem, Chief Waste Management Officer, Saleh Ahmed, Chief Engineer, Secretary Akramuzzaman, Russell Sabrin, Chief Property Officer and female councilors of the reserved seats were present in the event.
