Staff Reporter: The transport strike has been going on for the last two days in protest of the increase in fuel oil prices. As a result, all types of traffic were stopped. Considering the suffering of the people in such a strike, the government has increased the long-distance bus fare from Tk 1.42 per km to Tk 1.80 per km as per the new integrated fare. In other words, passengers will have to pay an additional 38 paise per kilometer.
The decision was taken after a meeting of leaders of the Transport Owners Association at the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) office on Sunday (November 7th) at noon.
It was also learned at the end of the meeting that the fare of the long-distance bus is increasing by 27 percent and in Dhaka by 26.5 percent. The minimum fare for buses is Tk 10 and for minibusses is Tk 8.
If we calculate the money, it can be seen that from now on all long-distance buses in the country will have to pay Tk 1.80 per kilometer, and the fare of different routes in the capital has increased by Tk 2.15. Besides, in the case of minibusses from now on, it is being increased from Tk 1.60 paise to Tk 2.5 paise.
At the end of the meeting, it was further learned that the minimum fare for big buses has been fixed at Tk 10 and for minibusses at Tk 8. However, the rent of CNG-fueled vehicles will not increase.
