BNP's ally in existence crisis !

Tareq Salman: The BNP-led 20-party alliance has not had any official activities for more than a year. Party breaking is going on in several teams of the alliance. This has created an internal divisions among the alliance partners. BNP the main ally of the alliance also is embarrassed in thia connection.

Although there is a split in the party but they are staying in the alliance again. As a result, the distance between senior leaders is increasing. There is no people oriented issues and public outcry as well.

Analysts say the 20-party alliance is in crisis. They are not in the coalition movement, nor in the ongoing local government (municipality, upazila and union council) elections. Sometimes one or two teams are seen active with a couple of programs under their own party banner which is is centered on the National Press Club and Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU). They are fighting for survival by discussing the party's founding anniversary or certain day celebrations.

Among the alliance partners, Kalyan Party Chairman Major General (Retd.) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim Bir Pratik was seen speaking on national issues or political issues through social media. LDP chairman Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmed is also limited to statements. Jamaat-e-Islami, one of the allies of the alliance, staged a large anti-rape protest. The same is true of other smaller parties, including the Labor Party. They are limited to statements. Basically, these partners could not enter the field with any big program of the party or alliance. Since the 11th national election, the alliance partners have been falling apart. The game of breaking and building is going on between them.

BJP's Andalib Rahman Perth left the 20-party alliance soon after the parliamentary elections. Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmed got involved in a disagreement with the BNP on the national liberation stage. Whose influence later on in his own team as well. The LDP is now divided into two parts. One section led by Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmed and another part is led by former whip of the National Parliament Abdul Karim Abbasi and former MP Abdul Gani and former senior joint secretary general of the party Shahadat Hossain Selim. They also celebrated the 14th founding anniversary of the party with the BNP leaders at the National Press Club on October 26 last year.

On the other hand, on the founding anniversary of Colonel Oli, the BNP-led alliance partners Jamaat, Kalyan Party, Jamiat Ulama, Jagpa and the top leadership of the national party joined the virtual discussion.

Meanwhile, some leaders of Jamaat, one of the allies in the alliance, have recently quit the party and announced the formation of a new party called 'AB Party'. They have also formed an 11-member convening committee. Former secretary AFM Solaiman Chowdhury has been convened in the new party. And former central president of Chhatra Shibir Mojibur Rahman Manju has been made member secretary. The BNP alliance is also in turmoil.

One of the top leaders of the 20-party alliance said on condition of anonymity that the top leaders of the 20-party alliance have been out of official contact with the BNP for about 9 -10 months. No official meeting has been held since the Covid 19 period. There is no virtual communication. The leader of the alliance also mentioned that such a situation has arisen due to the alliance with Siki and Adhuli (half & Quarter).

In this context, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, "We (20-party alliance) are in the movement to restore the democracy and will remain." The BNP is participating in the elections alone (by-elections and local elections).

When asked, Syed Muhammad Ibrahim Birpratik, Chairman of the 20-party alliance partner Kalyan Party, said, "We are not as active as the 20-party alliance was supposed to be." Not only BNP is responsible for this, we are also largely responsible. There is no alternative of unity to bring down this illegitimate government. So the alliance must be effective.

He said the movement, existence and course of action largely depended on the BNP, the main ally of the 20-party alliance. There is nothing more to say. He mentioned that Kalyan Party is in the 20-party alliance and will remain so.
