About 90 percent work of Padma bridge completed: Obaidul Quader

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said about 90 percent of the work on the Padma main bridge has been completed.

He made the remarks at a meeting to review the progress of the Padma Bridge project on Friday (September 11). The Minister of Road Transport and Bridges joined the meeting via video conference from his official residence.

The bridge minister said 31 out of 41 spans have been installed so far. At present Padma Bridge is visible at 4,650 meters. The work of 42 piers has already been completed and the work of river governance is about 64 percent complete. Work on connecting road and toll plaza at Mawa and Jajira ends has also been completed.

Obaidul Quader said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will open the first Drishtinandan Expressway from Dhaka to Mawa and Pachchar to Bhanga once the construction work is completed.

At the time, the meeting was attended by video conference - Bridge Secretary. Belayet Hossain, project director. Shafiqul Islam and representatives of construction companies.

Regarding the statement of the BNP secretary general on the initiative of the Election Commission to amend the Political Party Registration Act, Obaidul Quader said, "Election matters are under the jurisdiction of the Election Commission and the government has no statement on this issue." It is a constitutional body, if there is any statement of the government, the government will also inform the Election Commission.

He further said that the government will continue to assist the Election Commission in conducting fair, free and participatory elections in accordance with the Constitution. It is the organizational responsibility of the government. The formation of the Election Commission is through a constitutional process. The President formed a search committee to form the commission, which also included a BNP representative.
