International Desk: 490 illegal immigrants including Bangladeshis have been detained in Malaysia. Among those detained are citizens of Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan and Indonesia.

They were detained by the country's immigration department in an industrial area in Klang, Selangor state on Wednesday night (January 31).
According to reports published in Metro Harian on Thursday (February 1), the migrants lived in factories surrounding five-storey apartments in Klang's industrial area. The apartment was raided at 2:30 am local time on Wednesday.

The immigration department said police had been monitoring the area for about a month after receiving complaints and information from local people about infiltration before the operation.
There were a handful of immigrants who ran retail shops or brought goods from the country and sold them. The operation team raided four of the eight blocks of apartments.

Based on initial reports, the detained migrants were found to lack proper travel documents. They are currently being held at the Semuniyah Immigration Depot for further proceedings.
