Detective Branch (DB) of police have arrested two retired army officers over allegations of maintaining contact with leaders and activists of a banned political party and attempting to destabilise the country, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police said on Monday.
The arrested are retired Lieutenant Colonel Debashish Kumar Barua and retired Lieutenant Kazi Gulshan Ara. Two cases against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Cyber Security Act are being processed at Pallabi police station.
DMP Deputy Commissioner (media) Md Aktar Hossain disclosed the information while responding to questions from journalists at the DMP Media Centre on Monday afternoon.
He said that DB police arrested the two former officers on Sunday night based on specific allegations.
Explaining the allegations, Aktar Hossain said that the two had been creating various types of anti-government content and circulating them on online platforms. They had also been maintaining contact with leaders and activists of the banned organisation at different levels in an alleged attempt to destabilise the country, he added.
