The first woman to be hanged in independent India

International Desk: For the first time since India's independence, the country's high court is going to hang a woman.

Shabnam Ali , who axed her kins to death for lover Salim, likely to be first woman hanged in independent India.

The Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence of Shabnam Ali. The President of India has also rejected her mercy petition to reduce punishment. As a result, there is no legal impediment to the execution of the verdict. Amroha resident Shabnam, currently lodged in Rampur district jail, has been convicted of murdering her entire family on April 15, 2008.

The execution stage was set up in Mathura Jail 150 years ago for the execution of women criminals, but no one was ever hanged there. Although the date of execution was not fixed, Pawan Jallad reached Mathura. The hanging rope also came from boxer. Now just waiting for Shabnam's execution to take effect.

Amroha school teacher Shabnam Double MA. Holds a master's degree in History and Geography. She fell in love with Salim, a Class VI dropout day laborer in the village. She used to meet Salim after making her family members drink milk laced with sedatives every night. On the night of April 14, 2008, Shabnam killed her father, mother, three brothers, a sister-in-law and a 10-month-old nephew with an axe, since her family was opposed to her relationship with Salim.

The duo were convicted and awarded death sentence.The Supreme Court upheld the verdict in 2015, following which Shabnam had filed the mercy petition before the President.

Police arrested Shabnam and Salim in connection with the investigation into the seven murders. The main killer Shabnam was sentenced to death.

Shabnam's relatives said that Shabnam and Salim deserve to be hanged for the brutal acts which they have committed. "They both deserve to be punished."

Shabnam's uncle Sattar Ali and aunt Fatima, are desperately waiting for the day Shabnam will be hanged. They have no sympathy for their niece.

In fact, the scars left by Shabnam's deeds were so profound that no family in Bawankhedi has named their daughter Shabnam since then.
