Former cricketer Farooq is no more

Former national team cricketer ASM Farooq is no more (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilahi Raziun). He also passed away three days after the death of retired Major Hossain Imam, the BCB's chief security officer and Farooq's brother-in-law.

He died of a heart attack on Wednesday night (September 18). He was 65 years old at the time of his death.

ASM Farooq was a member of the Bangladesh team that took part in the three-day private Test match against MCC in Dhaka in 1986 under the leadership of Shamim Kabir. Under his leadership, the traditional Mohammedan won the first Dhaka League title in the 198-196 season.

Although he was in the preliminary squad for the ICC Trophy in 1989, he did not make it to the final. Farooq, who ended his playing career in the late seventies, later became known in the country's cricket as a manager and organizer.

He was the manager of Bangladesh team in 2003 World Cup. He was also the manager of Bangladesh Youth in 2018 U-19 World Cup. He has also served as the head of the BCB's game development department. The former Mohammedan captain later established himself as the organizer of the country's traditional club.
