Sun News Desk : Former Religious Affairs Minister Principal Motiur Rahman died at a hospital in Mymensingh on Sunday night. He was 81 years old.

His elder brother Zia Uddin Ahmed confirmed the matter.

He is survived by wife, a son, three daughters and host of relatives and well-wisher to mourn his death.

A freedom fighter Motiur was elected MP in 1986 and 2008 from the Mymensingh Sadar seat. He became minister in 2014.

Born in 1942 in Akua village in Mymensingh Sadar upazila, he served as a member of the advisory committee of the Bangladesh Awami League till his death.

Meanwhile, President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed their deep shock and sorrow at the death of former member of Awami League Central Working Committee Principal Motiur Rahman.

In a condolence message on Monday, the President said that the nation will forever remember Motiur Rahman's contributions to the Liberation War and education sector.
