International Desk : Seven people have been killed when part of a mosque filled with worshippers collapsed in Nigeria, officials said.

Zaria Emirates council spokesman Abdullahi Kwarbai said the incident happened as hundreds of faithful observed afternoon prayers at the city's central mosque.
Four bodies were found initially, and then three others were found after the rescue team searched the collapsed mosque.

Videos apparently recorded at the scene showed a wide opening where a part of the roof fell in.
Kaduna state Governor Uba Sani ordered an immediate investigation into the disaster and promised to help those affected by the “heartbreaking incident”.

Building collapses are frequent in Africa's most populous country, where regulations are poorly enforced and construction materials often substandard.
