International Desk : At least 7 pilgrims were killed and 28 others injured after a tourist bus fell into a deep gorge along the Gangotri national highway in Uttarkashi district on Sunday.

The pilgrims, who were from Surat and Bhavnagar districts of Gujarat, were returning to Uttarkashi after visiting the Gangotri shrine. One of the survivors, Ketan Rajyaguru, 59, spoke to TOI from hospital and said, " Before we could realise what was happening, the bus started rolling down the gorge. I lost consciousness. When I woke up, I was in the hospital." Rajyaguru received several stitches from the impact.
Getting information, Uttarakhand Police personnel along with State Disaster Response Force teams reached the site and started rescue operations with the help of local villagers.

District disaster management officer, Devendra Patwal, said “The bodies of the victims have been recovered and sent for postmortem. Seven persons, who are critical, have been shifted to AIIMS-Rishikesh.”
Uttarkashi DM Abhishek Ruhela said he has ordered a magisterial probe in the matter and SDM of Bhatwari has been directed to submit the report within a week.
