The new government led by the BNP is set to convene its first session of the National Parliament on 26 February during Ramadan.

The Parliament Secretariat confirmed the information.

Under Article 72(2) of the Constitution of Bangladesh, the first session of a new Parliament must be summoned within 30 days of the official gazette notification of the general election results.

While the President formally calls the session, it is done on the written advice of the Prime Minister, with the date and time determined by presidential order.

The results of the 13th national election were officially published on 14 February. Accordingly, the first session must take place by 16 March.

According to the information from the Parliament Secretariat, of the last 12 national parliaments, only three have held their first sessions during Ramadan.
