Staff Reporter: Coronavirus vaccine test results are positive. Thus, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Gebreyesas has sent a message of hope to the world to dream of ending this pandemic.
Regarding the distribution of corona vaccine, he said that care must be taken that rich and powerful countries do not ignore poor countries when it comes to vaccination. Vaccines must be distributed equally as products around the world. Not as a private product. Otherwise inequality will increase and some people will fall further behind.
He made the remarks online at the first high-level session of the UN General Assembly last Friday (December 4th).
Tedros said, investing in primary health care was essential if the world wanted to avoid another crisis of this magnitude. The foundation of primary health care needs to be strengthened quickly.
He said the WHO's ACT-accelerator program was designed to deliver vaccines quickly and accurately. 4.3 billion is urgently needed to collect and supply vaccines. In addition, another 23.9 billion dollars is needed for 2021.
The head of the WHO told the meeting that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had requested the Act-Accelerator to be paid during the opening session of the General Assembly on Thursday. I expect more investment from countries that have the power.
