StaffCorrespondent: Globe Biotech Limited, a pharmaceutical company in Bangladesh, has applied for coronavirus vaccine 'Bangavax' to be tested on human body or for clinical trial.

The application was submitted to the Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC) in Mohakhali on Sunday (January 18th). Globe Pharmaceuticals Limited Chairman, Harunur Rashid,.other officials of Globe Biotech Limited, came to BMRC around 11:30 pm to submit the application for clearance.

In all, the 10,000-page application was accepted by an assistant director of BM‌RC. Earlier, on December 26 last year, Globe Biotech Limited was allowed to produce a vaccine for corona virus.

Globe Biotech Limited is the only Bangladeshi company in the race to develop a corona virus vaccine, which has been included in the World Health Organization's Covid-19 41 vaccine candidate list so far.

The World Health Organization is monitoring the vaccines being developed around the world. The World Health Organization has a list of 42 vaccines in the clinical trial stage and another list of 156 vaccines in the pre-clinical trial stage (pre-clinical trial).

Globe Pharmaceuticals' spokesperson said the company had signed an agreement with the icddr,b to hold the clinical trial. As per the proposal, over 100 volunteers should take part in the trial and the trial will be conducted at a hospital in the capital

"Principal investigator of the clinical trial Prof Mamun Al Mahtab informed us that we would be able to start the human trial within seven to 10 days after the protocol approval", said Dr Asif Mahmud, in-charge of the Molecular and Cell Biology unit and assistant manager of Globe Biotech Limited.

After getting the permission of ethical trial, a team of 57 researchers will decide the dosage in the first phase and examine safety and efficacy in the second.
