200 killed after floods in Spain

International Desk: More than 200 people have died in severe floods in Spain. Many people are still missing. Rescue teams are trying to rescue the missing. The death toll is expected to rise.

Several bridges have been destroyed in the floods, and several cities have been covered by mud. Communications have been cut off in many places with water, electricity and food shortages. Many residents said that more lives could have been saved if local authorities had warned of the risk of flooding sooner.

Although the terrible weather has passed in Valencia and the Mediterranean coast, there is still a warning signal for the southern part of Spain. More heavy rain is possible there. Among them is the Huelva region, which has been hit by heavy rain. The rain that fell in just 10 hours in the city of Cartaya is equivalent to two months of rain there.

Valencia regional president Carles Mazon said more troops are being deployed. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez thanked the volunteers on social media, calling them “an example of solidarity and their boundless dedication to Spanish society.”
