The flood caused great damage to the educational institutions

This year's floods have damaged 3,913 primary schools. Besides, preliminary information has been found that about 1,200 educational institutions have been damaged.

Not only the Char Government Primary School in Basak, this year's prolonged floods have left huge scars on thousands of educational institutions across the country. According to the information received so far, 3,913 primary schools have been damaged by the floods. Somewhere the water has not come down yet.

Jahangir Hossain, headmaster of Char Government Primary School in Basak, said on Monday (August 24th) that the entire school, including two buildings and 40 per cent land, had been washed away by the Padma on July 29 and 30. Attempts are now being made to set up a temporary school. 365 students study here. The houses of many of their families have also been affected by river erosion. They have now taken refuge in temporary houses on the street.

On the other hand, work is underway to determine the damage to secondary schools. According to the preliminary data of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education (Maushi), about 1,200 educational institutions have been damaged. However, the actual information may be slightly distorted.

All educational institutions in the country have been closed since last March due to coronavirus infection. Due to this, the students have faced severe loss by stopping the study in the classroom. Even if the damaged schools are reopened, the teachers think that they will have an adverse effect on the classroom teaching.

The data was collected by the Department of Primary Education. According to their data, 1,460 schools in the districts of Dhaka division have been affected. Besides, 61 schools were damaged in Rajshahi, 572 in Sylhet, 64 in Rangpur, 38 in Mymensingh, 52 in Chittagong, 5 in Barisal and 1 in Khulna.

So far the total number of affected schools is known. In case of flood waters, after getting the actual information of the damage, he will take necessary steps for repair.

Of these, 21 schools in Rangpur division have been most affected. There are 13 schools in Dhaka division, 13 in Rajshahi, 3 in Mymensingh, 4 in Chittagong, 4 in Sylhet and 1 in Barisal.

Many school children in the affected areas have also lost their homes due to the floods. Sangeeta is in the fifth grade at Char Government Primary School in Basak, Shariatpur. He said on his mobile phone that his books had been destroyed as their house had collapsed. At that time, Sangeeta's mother Renu Begum said, she is now crying about how her daughter will study.

The Department of Primary Education has plans to repair the damaged schools. Sohail Ahmed, additional director general of the country's primary education care agency, said they knew the total number of schools affected so far. In case of flood waters, after getting the actual information of the damage, he will take necessary steps for repair. A separate fund has also been set up under the project for this purpose. Maybe somewhere small and somewhere big reforms will be needed. If this is not possible with the funds, then necessary steps will be taken by the revenue sector. These depend on getting an actual account of the damage.

Secondary schools and colleges in the flood-hit areas were opened for shelters. Besides, many institutions were also affected by the floods. Mausi has received preliminary information of these damaged educational institutions. According to an official of Mausi, most of the educational institutions in Mausi Mymensingh area have been damaged. The damage in Jamalpur and Tangail districts is relatively high. Around 200 educational institutions have also been damaged in Rajshahi and Sylhet regions. Besides, about one and a half hundred educational institutions have been damaged in Rangpur region. Mausi regional officials also initially provided information on the amount of money lost. Now these are being checked and selected.

When asked, Mausir Director (College and Administration) Shahedul Khabir Chowdhury said, "After determining the actual data of the damage, the information will be sent to the Ministry of Education for necessary measures including reforms." Further action will be taken on that basis.
