No paddy in the name of Miniket-Nazir'

Staff- Reporter: There is no rice variety in the country called Miniket and Nazir. Miniket is made by pruning fine rice like Gerashail and Kataribhog. And the brand Nazir originated from Nazirshail.

These polished rice are being sold in the market as buyers prefer white glossy rice. But the most nutritious rice is red rice. Consumers do not like that.

Food Minister Sadhan Chanda Majumder said this on Wednesday (February 17). He said this at a press conference on the occasion of the Safe Food Day 2021. The food minister was the chief guest on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Food Secretary Dr. Moshammat Nazmanara Khanum was the special guest at the press conference and Bangladesh Safe Food Authority Chairman Abdul Qayyum presided over the function.

At that time, the food minister said, if you want to eat safe rice, you have to eat red rice. But now everyone likes shiny rice. Millers are pruning rice, then it is polished and made shiny white. These rice sales are high but its nutritional value is low. You have to stop eating these.

In response to a question from reporters, the food secretary said, "We have done a study, in which no rice variety was found in the country called Miniket. Not even in the name of Nazir.

She further said that now these are the 'brand names' like Miniket, Nazir. We want to stop all this manipulation. However, that is not possible all on a sudden. This will have a big impact on prices and supply. We will move forward with this issue in the near future.
