Own Correspondent: Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswamy has said that India is working very hard on the Teesta water-sharing deal. However, this work is not only of the central government,but the state governments have the ultimate say on the issue of water sharing.
He made the remarks at a decab talk hosted by diplomatic reporters at the National Press Club on Monday (February 15th).
Doraiswamy said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bangladesh on March 26, the 50th anniversary of independence. Many issues related to energy and politics are being worked on with this visit.
He reiterated the commitment to ink the deal as soon as possible, he also mentioned that his government believe in the fair sharing of water of common rivers.
The Museum of Bangabandhu and Mahatma Gandhi (Bapu) has been established in India. He said that several projects have been completed and more new projects are being worked on.
Regarding border killings, Doraiswamy said,no one ever wants to be killed. Many attacked our border guards. All these incidents take place between 11 pm and 4 am. BSF is istructed not to kill people,"but sometimes they have to shoot as a last resort to save themselves,"
