Sports Desk: Argentine superhero. Arguably the best player of all time in football skills. He is a legend in the world of football. Not only in the game, but also outside the game, various incidents have repeatedly made headlines. This time he rose above all debates-discussions-titles. 'Football God' Diego Maradona moved to the land of no return at the age of 60.
When the heart stopped beating on Wednesday (November 25), this colorful world-shaking character died. His death was reported by several international media outlets, including Argentina's top media outlet, Clarin.
According to reports, Maradona had to be hospitalized a few days ago due to a blood clot in his brain. He was released from the hospital a couple of weeks ago after the surgery. He had a heart attack before he fully recovered from that illness. That's why Maradona said goodbye to the football world with tears.
For Argentines, football is an emotional name. The fullness of that emotion came when the man holding his hand, he was Diego Maradona. In 1986, the 26-year-old Maradona had the captain's arm band. His meeting with the so-called front-runner was an example at this year's World Cup. The Golden Ball won by captivating the whole world with its foot magic. However, this is not a personal achievement, Maradona became the jewel in the eyes of the Argentines after winning the World Cup against Argentina as a service team.
In the eventful World Cup around the Falklands War, Maradona gave Argentina a goal in the second half after a goalless first half in the Argentina-England match. After getting a hand touch on that goal in the replay, it gained fame all over the world as 'The Hand of God'.
No matter how much controversy there is over 'The Hand of God', Maradona ended all controversy in that match. One by one, five of England's players (Peter Bairdsley, Steve Hodge, Peter Reid, Terry Bacher and Terry Fenwick) took the ball from their own half and reached the front of the English goal post. Goalkeeper Peter Shilton was in front. He also cut the ball and delivered it to the English net. That is the best goal in the history of football - there are very few people who object to it.
Despite having an ankle injury in the 1990 World Cup, he has spread fascination with foot magic. Despite a fragile start to the first season, he eventually led the team to the final. The opponent in the final was West Germany. The match, which lasted 64 minutes, was heading towards a tiebreaker through a goalless draw. In the 75th minute, the referee blew the whistle for a foul on West Germany striker Rudy Voller. West Germany won the final with the only goal scored by Andreas Brahme from the penalty spot. Argentina, a large section of football fans claim, the penalty was controversial.
Then in the 1994 Football World Cup, the great hero of Argentine football also took part. But after taking part in two matches, he tested positive for dope and was expelled from the World Cup. Maradona also ended his 17-year international career after the World Cup.
After finishing his playing career, Maradona also coached the national team for a couple of years. He also took the team to the 2010 World Cup as a coach. However, Argentina could not cross the boundaries of the quarter finals. The Latin American country finished fifth in the World Cup after losing 4-0 to Germany. He left the post shortly after the World Cup because he did not get along with the Argentine Football Federation.
After leaving football, Maradona has made headlines again and again in the last two and a half decades. He has returned to the discussion again and again, sometimes with a new girlfriend, sometimes with drugs, sometimes with journalists. Even after retiring from international football, his face has always been found in the camera gallery in Argentina's matches in every World Cup. Football fans also flocked to the gallery to catch a glimpse of Maradona.
