Mongla (Bagerhat): During the liberation war in different areas of Bagerhat robbery. Delwar Hossain is now a freedom fighter! The local administration's investigation also found that he was involved in the robbery. Even then he is getting all the government facilities as a freedom fighter. He also gave a job to one of the children in the quota of freedom fighters.
The freedom fighters of Bagerhat district are extremely angry that no action has been taken against the robber Delwar of Burirdanga area of Mongla upazila who is still pretending to be a freedom fighter even after a few decades of the liberation war.
Sudip Sarkar of Burirdanga in Mongla lodged a written complaint with the secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs on October 30 last year.
According to the complaint, when the war of liberation started in 1971, Delwar used to stay in the Sundarbans and rob the surrounding areas including Radhaballav of Bagerhat. Delwar Hossain's name is not included anywhere in the release allowance list published by the Central Command Council of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad. However, by hiding his place of birth and making fake documents, he used various tricks to add his name to the list of freedom fighters of Mongla. After that, using money and physical force, the freedom fighters illegally joined the gazette through the middlemen (Gazette No. 264).
The ministry then sent a written complaint to the deputy commissioner of Bagerhat to investigate the matter. Mongla Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nayan Kumar Rajbangshi investigated the matter on the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner. He then held a hearing on the matter on December 11 last year. Thirty-two witnesses and eight heroic freedom fighters and more than a hundred local people spoke at the hearing.
After the investigation and hearing, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nayan Kumar Rajbangshi sent the investigation report to the Deputy Commissioner on March 11. In the investigation report, the investigation officer mentioned that the chairman of Burirdanga Union Parishad of Mongla Upazila, Bir Muktijoddha Nikhil Chandra Roy and the member of Bagerhat Zilla Parishad, Bir Muktijoddha Sheikh A. All the freedom fighters present including Rahman denied Delwar Hossain as a freedom fighter.
Delwar Hossain, a resident of Radhaballav area of Kachua upazila in Bagerhat, claimed that he was given a government job and his child was given a job in the police. After taking training in India in 1971, he took part in the liberation war against the Pakistani aggressors in his area along with everyone else. He also admitted that a child was given a job in the police in the quota of freedom fighters.
Muktijoddha Sangsad group commander Bir Muktijoddha Jitendranath Pal, a resident of Radhaballav area, said that after March 7, 1971, 75 people including him took training from India and took part in the war in Kachua area. Delwar Hossain did not take part in any war during the whole period of liberation war.
Jitendranath claimed that during the war, Delwar Hossain used to rob the Sundarbans with Sardar Nur Islam. He has attacked and looted people's houses in different areas of the district. After the independence of the country, when the robber Sardar Nur Islam died, Delwar married his (Nur Islam's) wife. And Delwar has never been able to come to his birthplace Kachua Upazila as he is involved in various controversial activities. He lived permanently in Mongla. After that he pretended to be a freedom fighter by making fake documents. One child has been given a job in the police in the quota of freedom fighters.
Jitendranath Pal, a heroic freedom fighter, expressed his displeasure that Delwar Hossain, who had been disguised as a freedom fighter for a long time, was not removed from the list.
Mongla Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kamlesh Majumder said a letter has been sent to the Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner's Office to take necessary action after an investigation based on a written complaint. He will supervise to take quick action as per the rules.
Complainant Sudip Sarkar said that Delwar Hossain and his associates have been threatening him in various ways since he lodged the complaint against the fake freedom fighter. At the same time, Delwar has managed the deputy commissioner of Bagerhat with one of his relatives working in a national daily newspaper in Dhaka and is spreading rumors that those allegations have disappeared.
